Below is a plain account of the information SauceGrove handles, what it is used for, and how to have it removed.
Where this applies
This policy covers this website. It does not cover the sites we link to, each of which has its own, nor any social platform where the site has a presence: there, the platform’s rules govern what it collects, and we see only what it chooses to show us.
What is collected
Loading a page transmits technical data: your IP address, the browser and device you use, which pages you open, the site you came from, and how long you read. We keep it in aggregate and never link it to a person.
You give us data only when you choose to: an email address if you subscribe, and whatever you write if you use the contact form.
Why we hold it
- Keep the site running and fix what breaks.
- Understand, in aggregate, which sauces and condiments pages are read and which are ignored.
- Answer the messages you send.
- Send the newsletter to people who asked for it, and only to them.
- Meet legal obligations when they apply.
The companies involved
Four outside services touch this data, each under its own privacy policy: Google Analytics (aggregate statistics), Google AdSense (advertising), our hosting provider (server logs), and our email provider (newsletter delivery). They may set their own cookies.
Data passed to the third parties named here crosses to the United States, where those companies operate. The transfer mechanisms are theirs and are documented in their own policies.
Subscribing
The newsletter works on one address and nothing else: no name is asked for, and the address is used to send the newsletter and for nothing besides. It is not passed to anyone, and the unsubscribe link at the foot of every issue removes it from the list rather than flagging it.
Lawful basis
Where European or United Kingdom law applies, the grounds are these: consent for the newsletter and for non-essential cookies, legitimate interest for keeping the site running and understanding in aggregate what is read, and legal obligation where one exists. Consent, where it is the ground, can be withdrawn at any time.
How long it is kept
How long things last: hosting logs are rotated by the host, analytics data expires according to the retention setting in Google Analytics, newsletter addresses live until you leave, and contact-form messages are deleted once the conversation is over.
Your choices
Three requests are always available to you: show me what you hold, fix it, delete it. Newsletter unsubscribe is one click and takes effect at once. Cookies are refused in the browser, not here. EEA, UK and California readers have statutory rights on top of this, and we extend them to all.
What never happens
No personal information is sold or passed on for independent marketing by someone else, and no data broker features anywhere. Readers in California can take that as the CCPA position: there is no sale to opt out of.
No profiling
Nothing on this site makes an automated decision affecting you, and there is no profiling of consequence. It is a publication, not a system that rates people.
Readers under 13
Readers under 13 are not the audience for SauceGrove and we do not knowingly hold their data. A message from a parent or guardian is enough to have anything of the sort erased.
Keeping it safe
The site runs over HTTPS and access to anything we store is restricted. That is protection, not invulnerability, and we will not dress it up as more than it is.
Raising a problem
Complaints are best raised with us first, through the contact page, because that is quickest. You keep the right to go straight to your data protection authority instead.
Revisions
Any revision is dated at the top of the page, and anything substantial is flagged on the site itself.
